CBNA Ranks High on State Mandated Testing of Juniors

Coe-Brown Northwood Academy, along with most other secondary schools in NH, administered Smarter Balanced testing for Math and English Language Arts and the NECAP test for Science to the Class of 2016 during the 2014-2015 school year. Smarter Balanced testing indicates a progression to college and career readiness. Scores are reported at four levels: one – minimal understanding, two – partial understanding, three – adequate understanding, and four – thorough understanding. CBNA is proud to report that 83% of Coe-Brown students tested scored a three or higher as compared to the state average of 59% in English Language Arts. This placed CBNA fourth in the state among all the high schools. In Math, 67% of Coe-Brown students tested scored a three or higher compared to the state average of 37%, placing CBNA second in the state in math on the Smarter Balanced Assessment.

The NECAP Science scores are also reported at four levels with Level Three being proficient and Level Four being proficient with distinction. Fifty percent of CBNA students tested on the NECAP Science test scored at Levels Three or Four as compared to 33% of the students in NH scoring at Levels Three or Four.

CBNA FFA Members Help Clean up Land in Northwood

On November 5, 2015, Coe-Brown Northwood Academy FFF “Much-To-Do” Chapter members, along with local volunteers and town officials helped to clean up a town owned piece of property near Olde Canterbury Road in Northwood, NH that was heavily littered with tires, trash, wood and other debris. The town is trying to clean the land to improve the environment in the area, as well as so that the property can be sold. One of the missions of FFA is to do community service that benefits the community in regards to its natural resources. Students learn valuable lessons in recycling, land value, personal skills in community responsibility with regards to safety, as well as helping restore aesthetics to their community. FFA members involved with the project included Sydney Wilson, Anna Prescott-Nichols, Shayne Henry, Jason Palmer, Clayton Canfield, Emery Travers, Ryan Graeme, Sam Whitehouse, and advisor Sarah Ward. Volunteers from the town of Northwood included Town Administrator Joe Gunter, Town Representative Tim Jandebeur, the Porcella Family and employees of North Ridge Construction and Tucker Docko of Docko Excavation. Students will be returning at a later to continue to help continue the process as there is still a great deal of work still to do.

 

CBNA Graduate Receives National FFA Award

CBNA Graduate Receives National FFA AwardCoe-Brown Northwood Academy is pleased to announce that 2015 graduate Meghan Chryst represented NH in the National FFA Dairy Handler’s Career Development Event (CDE) at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, KY on October 29, 2015.  In the Dairy Handler Event, 29 students across the country represented their chapters and states showing dairy cattle.  Meghan was selected to show Brown Swiss cattle and for her efforts received a silver recognition for her efforts. Meghan is currently attending NHTI for general studies and serving as the Granite State FFA secretary.  Meghan lives in Strafford on her family’s alpaca farm.

The National FFA Organization is national youth organization of 629,367 student members as a part of 7,757 local FFA Chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.  The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

 

 

CBNA Announces Results of “Trick Or Treat So Kids Can Eat” Food Drive

The Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) and its student honorary organization, the International Thespian Society, are pleased to announce the results of Coe- Brown Northwood Academy’s participation in the International Thespian Society’s Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat program, a national community service initiative for ITS-member schools to help communities by collecting food for local charities and food banks. On October 30 and 31, CBNA Thespian Troupe #5976 collected 1304 pounds of canned food and dry goods which were donated to the Northwood Food Pantry. Senior Ryan Wadleigh chaired the collection drive as his senior project and 40 CBNA students assisted her with the collection, sorting and delivery. Troupe #5976 would like to thank everyone who contributed canned goods during the drive. Students would like you to know that you’ve made a huge difference for people in need throughout the community.

The International Thespian Society is the student honorary organization of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), a national nonprofit organization with approximately 90,000 student and professional members. EdTA’s mission is shaping lives through theatre education by: honoring student achievement in theatre and enriching their theatre education experience; supporting teachers by providing professional development, networking opportunities, resources, and recognition; and influencing public opinion that theatre education is essential and builds life skills. EdTA operates the International Thespian Society (ITS), which has inducted more than two million theatre students since its founding in 1929.

Coe-Brown Northwood Academy Parent Information Nights

Coe-Brown Academy will be holding Parent Information Nights for parents who are interested in learning more about the school. For anyone outside Northwood, Strafford, or Nottingham this is an opportunity to learn more about the curriculum and what is available at Coe-Brown as they make their decisions of where to send their children to high school. For Northwood, Nottingham, and Strafford parents, it is an opportunity to learn more about the school as well as get acquainted with the various programs offered. The night will include an information session presented by the Administration and Guidance, opportunity to ask questions, as well as a tour of the campus. The Barrington Parent Night will be Monday, November 2 at 6:30. The Northwood/Strafford Parent Night will be Thursday, November 5 at 6:30 and the Nottingham Parent Night will be Tuesday, November 17 at 6:30.
