Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recently announced that Coe-Brown seniors Ruby Carr and Shannon Jackson have been named Semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. They join approximately 16,000 other Semifinalists nationwide in this annual program who were the highest scoring students in their states on the 2018 PSAT which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Miss Carr and Miss Jackson, along with these other academically talented students, have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements including submitting a detailed application and essay to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. Over 90% of the Semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. Congratulations to Ruby Carr and Shannon Jackson on this achievement.
