From Everest to CBNA: How John Beede Inspired Our Community of Students

Northwood, New Hampshire…

On March 12th, we were thrilled to welcome John Beede as a speaker at CBNA, where he delivered an inspiring presentation to our students, along with 8th graders from nearby schools! His motivational speech was truly memorable, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have hosted him in our community for many of the students and schools in the area.

Adventurer John Beede has been struck by lighting, attacked by a 5-foot iguana, and he once did the hokey-pokey in the eye of a hurricane. He’s been swimming with Hammerhead, Great White, and Whale sharks. He was even trapped in the Indonesian jungle between

warring tribes and the world’s largest goldmine. His travels have taken him to 56 countries and every continent, including Antarctica.

In his presentation, he spoke about the peak performance and leadership lessons that he learned while pursuing his life’s biggest dream; reaching the summit of Mount Everest. After two months of climbing, 9 months of full-time preparation, and 17 years of mountaineering, he planted his trusty ice axe into the summit of Mount Everest. Subsequently, he was featured on TV’s 60 Minutes and media outlets across the globe.

He is not sponsored. All funding for his expeditions comes from building and selling his own companies. Additionally, he has authored two books, including Climb On! Success Strategies for Teens and The Mini-Manual for Becoming Super Awesome. Together, they have sold over 50,000 copies.

John spent a significant part of the day with us at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy, engaging with our students and later addressing 8th graders from nearby schools who eagerly took the chance to hear his inspiring message. His presentation was a captivating narrative of his ascent to the pinnacle of Mount Everest, interspersed with frequent pauses to highlight the vital skills and knowledge he harnessed throughout his life. These insights helped him not only to select his summit but also to equip himself adequately to conquer the challenge.

The session was both a powerful and emotional experience for our student community, leaving a lasting impression and prompting enthusiastic applause at the conclusion of each segment. As John eloquently expressed during his talk, “Be a part of your team and a part of the community, because that is what success is all about.” This message resonated deeply with the audience, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and community involvement as fundamental elements of achieving success. Throughout his talk, John also shared anecdotes and practical examples from his life, illustrating how teamwork, goal setting, courage, and communal spirit played a crucial role in overcoming challenges and achieving success. This enriched the learning experience for all attendees, providing them with valuable lessons to carry forward into their own lives and endeavors.

One of the highlights of featuring John Beede at CBNA was the opportunity to introduce him to the wider community. At Coe-Brown, our community is paramount, and we aim to make a positive difference in the lives of everyone who comes through our doors.
